How do I document what happened and keep evidence?

Documenting helps if you want to report to a platform, ask for support or file a complaint — even if you haven’t decided yet.

Documenting doesn’t commit you to anything. But if you decide to report or file a complaint later, the evidence will be there.

What to document

  • Screenshots of messages, comments or posts, with the date and time.
  • The account name and its link (not just the display name).
  • Links to the posts or videos.
  • Call or SMS logs.
  • A short summary: what happened, when and where.

How to keep it safe

  • Store it where the person harming you can’t reach it (not on a shared phone).
  • Keep a second copy somewhere else that is safe.
  • Don’t edit the original files.

If documenting is emotionally hard, you can ask someone you trust to help you.
