Someone is threatening me — what do I do?

If someone threatens you online, your safety comes first. These steps help you assess the risk and act.

Practical guides 1 min read

Threats are not “normal”, and you don’t have to deal with them alone.

1. Assess the risk

  • Does the person know where you live, work or study?
  • Does the threat involve physical harm?
  • Are the threats repeated or getting worse?

If you answered yes to any of these, treat it as serious: see what to do now, and call 1899 or the police on 197 if danger is close.

2. Don’t reply or provoke

Replying can make things worse. Don’t try to negotiate or threaten back.

3. Document everything

Screenshots with the date, account name and link. Keep the original messages, even if you block the person afterwards.

4. Block and report to the platform

After documenting, you can block and report the account. Platforms ban threats of violence.

5. Plan for your safety

  • Tell someone you trust what is happening.
  • Change your usual routes or times if the person knows them.
  • Turn off location sharing in your apps.

You can ask for legal or psychological support, and document the incident with us confidentially.
