Someone may have taken over your account. Don\u2019t panic \u2014 here are clear steps.<\/p>\n<h2>1. Try to recover the account<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Facebook:<\/strong> go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/hacked\" rel=\"noreferrer\">facebook.com\/hacked<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Instagram:<\/strong> go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/hacked\" rel=\"noreferrer\">instagram.com\/hacked<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gmail \/ Google:<\/strong> go to <a href=\"https:\/\/g.co\/recover\" rel=\"noreferrer\">g.co\/recover<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>WhatsApp:<\/strong> re-register your number on your phone to kick the intruder out, then turn on \u201ctwo-step verification\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>2. Once you are back in<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Change the password to a new, strong one.<\/li>\n<li>Change the password of the email linked to the account too.<\/li>\n<li>Log out of every device and session you don\u2019t recognise.<\/li>\n<li>Turn on two-factor authentication.<\/li>\n<li>Check the email and phone number on the account and remove anything that isn\u2019t yours.<\/li>\n<li>Remove connected apps you don\u2019t recognise.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>3. Warn people<\/h2>\n<p>Tell friends and family your account was hacked, so they don\u2019t answer messages asking for money, photos or codes.<\/p>\n<h2>4. Document<\/h2>\n<p>Screenshot messages sent in your name and any changes to the account.
